A Weekend At “Home”

Updated: Feb 24, 2022

This past weekend, I traveled back to my childhood home for a visit and to see my parents. It’s hard to put into words how much my soul needed a weekend away to retreat and go back to my roots. It was full of good, and slow, and restoration, things that are hard to come by these days. Back when we were dealing with the thick of the pandemic and lockdowns, I felt like a lot of my time with my family was taken away. It feels like every year I realize more and more how precious these days are, especially after surviving the modern plague. I got to have one on one time with my parents, a rare luxury when you’re born into a family of 6, and enjoy dinner al fresco on our patio with them every night! Can we please acknowledge how cute their set-up is? I think they’ve taken to being empty nesters very well, if you ask me.

I was so excited to also be able to host my first ever in-person pop-up for Beautycounter! I joined as a consultant right before the world shut down in March of 2020, so all of my Beautycounter events have taken place virtually. It was so refreshing to have an in-person event where friends could come sip cocktails and try on the products for themselves. I think everyone really enjoyed it, and it ended up being a huge success for me business-wise, which is always a plus! I love that we are moving back in the direction of in-person events, because I don’t think I can take one more Zoom event.

My mom and I are both obsessed with Summersalt swimwear, so when we made a trip to the pool we of course had to wear our favorite suits! I have the Ruffle Backflip in color Seaweed & Seaglass (linked here!), and my mom was rocking the Sidestroke in Seaweed & Seaglass & White Sand (linked here). I’ve gotten a few questions about Summersalt so far, and I can tell you it’s worth the hype and the price tag. The suits fit so well, stay in place, and the material is actually super comfortable and doesn’t dig into my skin like other suits do. I’m definitely impressed, however I do wish they were more size inclusive, The largest they go up to is a 22, but I know women who wear above that size that are disappointed Summersalt doesn’t extend beyond that. Hopefully sometime soon!

I hope you, dear reader, get to spend some time this summer getting back to your roots, I hope you get to spend time at a place and with people who restore you. These past 18 months have taken a toll on us. Our bodies and minds have been pushed and tested and challenged, and it’s time to start recharging our souls. Time to start making up for lost time. I was so thankful to come home from my trip renewed and inspired. And so very thankful.

XO Megan
